Sunday 4/10/11

After a hiatus to heal up everything I headed out to Mt. Airy Forest for a hilly, muddy trail run. I have not run at all for two weeks and ran close to nothing the three weeks before that. Needless to say, I was huffing and puffing every step of this run. Of course my first day back is also the hottest day of the year so far, about 87 degrees. The good news is my hip did not seem to hurt at all. Being off the road and having a fresh pair of shoes helped. In total the run was 4.7 miles in 40:48 (8:41 pace). Mt. Airy along with Clear Creek Park are going to be the only places I run for a long time. As nice as it is to run through all the neighborhoods around our house, I don't think my body can handle pounding pavement like it used to. Old age I guess! I received word this week from my good friend from high school and college Jimmy Wiggins that he wants me to be a groomsman in his wedding in July back home in Louisiana. I can't wait since he and his soon-to-be wife Megan were both on the LSU Track team with me and we have many of the same friends...most of whom I haven't seen in 5 years or longer. Thibodaux, Louisiana will never be the same! Here is a photo I took today of a tree house that is in Mt. Airy Forest pretty close to where I start and finish my trail runs.
